What are Cut scores?

It is NOT a minimum score required by UIS for admission.

It is NOT an enrollment score.

It is NOT a future admission score.

Having a score higher or lower than the cut-off does NOT guarantee or prevent admission.

UIS only requires meeting the ICFES minimums (31 or higher in each area).

It is NOT the same every semester.

It depends on the people who apply in each admission process.

Each semester there are applicants with different ICFES results.

That is why cut-off scores change from semester to semester.

It is NOT the same for all programs.

Each program calculates applicants' scores differently.

ICFES subjects have different weights depending on the program.

For example, Natural Sciences weighs more in Medicine and Mathematics weighs more in Engineering.

That is why the same person can have different scores depending on the program applied to.

So, what IS a cut-off score?

It is the score of the last applicant admitted to a program.

It is obtained ONLY after the admission process has finished.

The process is as follows:

1. The university opens applications for a future semester.

2. Applicants submit their applications.

3. UIS calculates and compares all applicants' scores.

4. Available seats are assigned per program.

5. Admitted applicants are published.

Simple example

If 200 people apply to a program and there are 50 seats.

The score of the applicant admitted in position number 50.

That score is the cut-off score for that program in that semester.

From that score onward, no more applicants are admitted.

Important about semesters.

Cut-off scores for a semester are published once that semester has started.

It is not possible to know a semester's cut-off score before the admission process ends.

For example: the cut-off score for 2025-2 is published during semester 2025-2.

Meanwhile, open applications correspond to the following semester.

What are cut-off scores used for?

They serve as a historical reference.

They show the scores with which people were admitted in previous semesters.

They help give an idea, but do NOT predict future results.

To estimate your chances.

Use the DeTodoUIS Oracle.

Enter your ICFES results and compare them with previous semesters and different programs.

DeTodoUIS is a student community app, not an official UIS channel. Check dates and requirements on the official UIS pages.
